  • The quick recall team won two matches before falling in the round of 16 at state.  It was a very good performance.  Please congratulate Casey Young, Luke Wilson, Jordan Williamson, Cody Sterling, Zach Robke, Jordan Klare, Matt Childers and Ryan Collins.

    In individual competition, Lindsay Roe finished 4th in the state in Composition.  Just missing the top 10 were Casey Young (12th in Social Studies) and Jordan Williamson (14th in Science).

  • Congratulations to Alex Santomo for 1st place in Accounting 1 at our Regional FBLA competition at NKU yesterday, March 9.

  • Chelsea Williams participated in the NACKES Science Fair this Saturday at NKU with her project titled, "Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars."  She performed outstanding and had many positive comments from various judges.  She earned three awards:
        -Second Place in Engineering
        -US Army Outstanding Science Project
        -US Air Force Outstanding Science Project

  • The SK Dance team won at the Kentucky Dance Coaches Organization Region 9 Competition.  They got 1st Place in Small Varsity Hip Hop.

  • The Wrestling Pioneers had a good Region 6 showing this weekend.  The team finished 3rd behind 1st in state ranked Ryle and 3rd ranked Campbell.  We qualified 10 wrestlers to the state tournament including 5 freshman, 2 sophomores, 2 juniors, and 1 senior.  We also had the tournaments' Most Outstanding Wrestler with Kevin Cooper who pinned his 2nd ranked senior opponent with 0.2 seconds remaining in the match.

  • Simon Kenton won its seventh consecutive Governor's Cup District title Saturday.  For the first time in school history, the team finished first in every event.  The quick recall team went 3-0 to claim the title.  Team members were Jordan Williamson, Casey Young, Luke Wilson, Cody Sterling, Zach Robke, Jordan Klare, Matt Childers, and Ryan Collins.  The Future Problem Solving team finished 1st.  Team members were Lindsay Roe, Kristen Sholander, Julie Morris, and Elizabeth Gauck.

  • The Simon Kenton Marching Band participated in the Mid States Band Association Class AA Championships at King's High School.  The band performed their best show yet!  In prelims competition, the band scored a 79.1 which was good enough for 2nd place (out of 22 total band)!  The top 10 bands performed later in the evening in finals competition where the SK band upped their performance level and received a score of 80.2!  That is the highest score that a Simon Kenton Band has scored in Mid States since 2000.  Their performance was good enough for 3rd place on the evening and they were only .9 out of second place.  This is Simon Kenton's highest placement at Mid States Championships since 2000 when they won class AA.

  • SK took two teams to the Tippecanoe Academic Challenge in Tipp City, OH, Saturday.  Forty teams from the states of Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan competed.  The A team of Casey Young, Jordan Williamson, Luke Wilson, and Cody Sterling, went 6-1 in the preliminary rounds, earning a bid at the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament in Chicago May 28th-30th.  This is the 3rd time in the past 4 years that we have qualified for the HSNCT.

    Our B team of Zach Robke, Matt Childers, Jordan Klare, Daniel Bergman, and Jacob Graham finished 9th in the tournament, almost earning SK a second bid to nationals.  They had the same record as the lowest qualifying team, but lost out on the tiebreaker of total points scored.  It was an outstanding performance by them as well.

  • This past Saturday, the band participated in the Mason High School Invitation in Mason, OH.  The band became Class AA Champions (out of 11 bands).  The band won Best Overall Colorguard for Class AA.  In overall competition, the band was named Small Class Grand Champion beating out 18 total bands.  The band was also awarded: Best Overall Music, Best Overall Visual, Best Overall General Effect, and Best Overall Colorguard.  Congratulations to the following band members:

  • The academic team finished 5th at U of L's tournament Saturday.  That finish earned the team a bid to the PACE National Scholastic Competition.  This is the earliest we have ever earned an automatic bid to nationals.  Congratulations to Casey Young, Jordan Williamson, and Cody Sterling for their outstanding achievement.

  • The academic B team performed well at the tournament.  With 3 of the 4 members playing in their first NAQT tournament ever, the team advanced to the Round of 16 to play the top seed.  There was a great effort by Jordan Klare, Matt Childers, Daniel Bergman, and Jacob Graham.

  • The varsity academic team defeated Ryle 43-20 Tuesday.  The team was led by Jordan Williamson with 10 points, Casey Young with 4, and Zach Robke and Cody Sterling with 2 each.

  • Congratulations to the following students who were selected to participate in the NKU Honor Choir:  Elyssa Carmony, Hilary Hahn, Katherine Hahnel, Felecia Bradshaw, Maggie Watkins, Jordan Young, Austin Cagle, and Nate Powell.

  • Congratulations to the girls golf team: Danielle Reynolds, Liz Feinauer, Morgan Larison, and Erica Hancock.  They placed 5th of the 16 teams.  Morgan Larison had a score of 86, which is good enough to qualify for the state tournament.  Danielle Reynolds finished the final hole of her 4-year career with a birdie to record her personal best score.

  • Congratulations to the boys golf team on a job well done.  They shot a team score of 377 which is out second best 18 hole score of the year.  Sophomore Ryan Mullen led with an 89 and Senior Matt Nachazel shot a 93.

  • The varsity academic team opened league play with a 34-20 victory over Cov Cath Tuesday.  Jordan Williamson led the Pioneers with 11 points, followed by Luke Wilson with 6, Casey Young with 5, Zack Robke with 2, and Cody Sterling with 1.  The JV won its season opener 24-20 over Cov Cath.  Congratulations to Matt Childers, Jordan Klare, Daniel Bergman, Jacob Graham, Shaelyn Beagle, Salena Lisner, and Blake Emmons.

  • On September 19, the band competed at East Central High School (IN) and had 2 great performances.  In prelims competition the band won first place in Class AA (out of 4 bands) and won 3 out of five captions including: Best Music, Best Visual and Best Percussion (the Color Guard missed best Guard by 1 point on a 200 pt scale). In Finals Competition, the marching band had another outstanding performance taking 6th place overall (out of 18) and placing 5th in percussions and 5th in color guard. The 45 winds and percussion even knocked off a band in class 3A (55-70 playing members) and one 4A band (71-100 playing members).  The band's overall score jumped 12.5 pts from the previous week to a 64.5

  • On September 12, the band competed at Kings High School.  They had a great performance.  The band won 3 out of 5 captions, including: Best Music, Best Overall Effect and Best Percussion.  The marching band's performance was good enough for them to place 1st place out of 6 bands in class AA with a score of 52 out of 100.

  • The varsity academic team played its first tournament of the year Saturday at Danville High School.  Despite losing 3 of the 4 starters from last year, the team finished with a strong 6-3 record.  Of our 3 losses, one was to the #1 team in the state and the other two came on the last question of each match.  Congratulations to Casey Young, Jordan Williamson, Cody Sterling, Zach Robke, Jordan Klare, and Luke Wilson for their performance. 

  • The FFA Dairy Judging Team placed 5th in the state competition.  Congratulations to Mackenzie Penick, Karley McCown, and Makenzie Waymeyer for working hard over the summer to accomplish this. Also, Jared Heegar placed 10th in the state welding contest.  Jared is a 2009 SK graduate.

  • The SK FFA members: Makenzie Waymeyer, Mackenzie Penick, and Karley McCown competed in EKU's Dairy Judging Contest.  Makenzie Waymeyer placed 1st overall as an individual while the team placed 2nd.  There were over 90 individuals that made up more than 25 teams from throughout Kentucky.  Congratulations to FFA and to their advisor, Mr. Butler.
